An exclusive, refined experience
Established in 1906 as a European-style hotel, our building has been a cornerstone of Memphis history for over a century.
Originally catering to railway and riverboat travelers, the hotel featured lavish Turkish baths and accommodated visitors with its 18 bedrooms and nine bathrooms. Throughout the roaring 1920s, Hotel Pontotoc became one of Memphis’ most well-known bordellos. In 1929, it was transformed into a family hotel by Dionysos (Dan) Touliatos, who welcomed the Greek community and hosted legendary parties. The hotel became a cultural hub, frequented by actors, vaudeville players, and notable artists, including Mexican sculptor Dionicio Rodriguez.
“From haunted history to saucy secrets…
imagine if these walls could talk.”
The Pontotoc’s rich history is marked by its vibrant past, including the Front Street Theatre founded by George Touliatos Sr. in the 1950s, and its transformation into a recording studio in the 1980s. Today, under the stewardship of Tony Kuhn and Joseph Lewis, Hotel Pontotoc continues to offer a blend of historical charm and modern luxury, making every stay a journey through time.
